Ever regretted saying something?

Have you ever been in a social situation where you said something you instantly regretted? What was it?

I say a lot of strange or irrelevant things that could have not been said, then I instantly wish I could've just given it more thought and set it aside.

Also, this isn't entirely IRL social, but last night I mouthed off to someone about something that they had already done a long while ago; I just felt so angry at her because she was hurting my friends feelings and I just wanted to let her have it, but next time I see her in the chatrooms I'll have to tell her sorry.

I've done it countless times. The people who know me don't even bother with it any more, they just laugh. But it really bugs me when I hurt someone's feelings with my words and I didn't even know that I was hurting them. It happens quite often.

I think we all say things we instantly regret.

On a frequent basis. I think that this is a common trait of all humans.

It might be easier for me to count the times I said something that I didn't regret. I seem to be able to step on toes simply by clearing my throat...

That's no doubt a valid statement, but do you suppose that, for the general population of Aspies, we say things we regret which are at first things that we were looking really hard to say because we felt we needed to say something to keep up with the rest of the group's conversation? Three days before my 13th Birthday, back in 1987, I've blurted out to my entire music class, that my music teacher, Mr. Jones was gay. The story behind that scenario, was that my parents were very abusive towards me, towards my Cockney accent, telling me not to talk through my nose, like a Cockney, that entire summer. I came back to school, that September, only to find out that I really do sound like a Londoner - Mr. Jones, from the east of London. I was told by another teacher, that I should feel honoured. I felt ashamed, instead, and that's why it happened. I regret that, very much. He was also wearing pink socks, that day.

I'm glad that my speech was never "fixed" like my mum said it could be, when I was bragging about my accent, 6 months later, in the Spring of 1988. I'm glad that I still have my accent, and I hope that I never lose it. I don't know if I should phone my mum, after work today, knowing what she did to me, at the ages 12 and 13.
