I'm upset one more time. On facebook, I argued with my "friends" about music and old recordings. They say the "soul" of musicians can only be recorded on vinyles. WTF ? I can't stand any more those emotion-based affirmations. They simply show a nostalgia ,which, for most of them who did not even know this time, is fed by pure fantasies ! But I'm the only one to accept this idea. I'm the only one who thinks "soul" doesn't mean anything actually. Musicians don't need a special old-fashioned recording way to make hear their own personnal interpretation, that seems obvious, no ? Why do the others listen to music with their fantasies crap ? Why do they ALL treat me like an UFO without feelings ? I love music, I feel emotions, but just by the sound ! F**k. How could I make friends if no one wants to listen to me, to accept me ?

I don't see the disagreement as a reason for you not to be friends, unless they became hostile and insulting whilst arguing. Perhaps you're seeing hostility where there isn't any.

You're right, and I like to discuss with people, when they are open-minded. But it often happens that two, three, four guys defend a same emotion-based opinion against mine, and I don't know how to do. They do like "she's a crazy one", ""we are the good group", congratulate themselves, etc... They're not insulting me, but isn't this behavior really hostile ?

If you want to get your friends going you should start talking about tube vs solid state! Musicains talk about things like "feel" and ''soul" a lot. Sometimes its just a short hand for things that they may not fully understand. Vinyl does change the recorded sound. Good engineers know this and use it too their advantage.

I think you are absolutely right here.
I understand the term "soul", when used to describe a recording, as of how the harmonic sounds, and how the noiselevel is.
There is a difference, but if it's for the better can be questioned. Digital recordings are very precise and maybe that's the reason why some prefer analog recordings. Simply because they are missing some "data", and allows the imagination to fill in the rest of it.

At least that's my theory :P

EDIT: A good reason to why venyls would sound better might actually be found when looking at a visual of the audio (I know it has a name!).
Cause most music today is mastered VERY loud, too loud in my opinion since I'm beginning to notice clip'ing. And the fact that most venyl recordings are old, and therefore not mastered as loud, could be a very good explaination.

Everyone has the right to prefer one or another way to record, I'm ok with that. But we can't deny that sounds recorded are more clearly recorded in the best recent recordings, probably because of wear.
But when a lot of people like the old one and that you're alone to like the other one, should you be rejected ? Should they stay deaf ? One told me "I got my truth". How logical is that ? I 'm not just talking about tastes, but about facts...
The last answer was this sign : °v°
Do you have an idea of what it means ?

And yet they did deny just exactly that. You won't convince them otherwise and they won't convince you otherwise. Best just to drop the subject.

They aren't rejecting you. They are rejecting your opinion. They don't agree with it.

They aren't deaf. They just value different qualities in music than you do.

You aren;t talking about facts. You're talking about tastes. The entire concept of "musical soul" is so subjective that there aren't any facts about it, just different feelings that people have.

It probably represents holding fingers up in a "v" sign. Not the Spock V, the peace sign V. Shorthand for "peace". A person who says "I got my truth" is also likely to sign off with "peace". That overall exchange was that posters's way of saying "let's agree to disagree". I would advise agreeing to disagree so that you can continue to talk about music.

Thank you. I guess I must improve my social skills. The last answer was "you're such an a**hole you don't deserve to be my friend any more". And I don't know why.
