Would someone typically be picked on because he doesn't normally talk to other peers at work?

Today at work, the custodian f***ing threw something at me and I got hit in the face with it.

I normally don't talk to other carry-outs, because besides my social problems as an aspie, i stay concentrated on my task at work. I work hard. It takes me a month to learn some new employees' names, cuz I don't pay attention, I work.

Just cuz I'm not social, is that why I'm all of a sudden getting picked on? I don't wanna quit, I've been at that job for almost a year now (11 months), and I don't wanna be without a job. I want that paycheck.

Yes, probably. People find it threatening if there are people around that do not socialize. The fact that you work hard makes it even more threatening for them. If you watch groups of animals you see the same. They interact in order to establish group coherence. If you don't interact, you're out and you will be picked at. You also will be a perfect target to put all the things that go wrong on, because nobody will stand up for you (unless you have some really honest people working there).

It's useful to watch animal behaviour like picking orders with chickens and groups of dogs. Social behaviour is related to safety.

well, i grew up in the middle of nowhere during my childhood life, i had no help with social problems and i never got diagnosed. my father and stepmother whom i lived with back then never taught me anything about life. (unless you would count my stepmother forcing me to watch the butchering of a rabbit)

so I may have a harder time than some other aspies.

If I had grown up with my mother and stepfather, who were more supportive of me and teach me as much as they can, i would probably be able to make friends, like some aspies.

Did you report the custodian to a supervisor?

Picked on verbally, I would expect, but I have to say I thought getting things thrown at you in the work place was something that only happened to professional athletes. I hope you don't get picked on more for "snitching". I know in situations like that you pretty much can't win. Sorry you have such rotten luck.
