Are you happy? What does that even mean?

This is one of those things that people ask all the time. Are you happy? I've never really understood the question, so I never feel like I give a good answer. I'm not "happy" right this moment. I'm just sitting here typing on the computer. I'm not upset, angry, or anything right now. I have moments of happiness, like when my dogs do something cute. I laugh at jokes. I have happy moments and sad moments and angry moments. I'm generally content with my life. Things could be a lot worse. Does that mean I'm happy? Having more good moments than bad moments?

Or are NT people literally happy for more than a a few minutes at a time?

I think thats happy having more good moments than bad. I think its more of your attitude towards the things that happen. if you are constantly dwelling on all the bad stuff in your life then I dont think you would be happy but if you find joy in most things then you are happy.

Im not really NT so i cant say how that is.

If you feel good about yourself and your life for the most part then I would hope you are happy :)

I think that if people ask you if you are happy, it really means how content you are with the way things are. I don't think anyone can stay happy all the time. Maybe upbeat or positive most of the time, but happiness is fleeting and can't be sustained for long periods.

Every once in a while mom will demand "Are you happy?"

I don't know! It's a little too complex for that!

People used to ask me that question all the time. My friends and my family would keep asking me that annoying question until I came back to my senses and gave into my true personality. I was asked that question a lot between 2007 and most of 2009. No, I'm not happy. Why do you think I make myself look scary? I haven't been asked that question for a year and a half, knock on wood. :)

Thanks all. This is one of my least favorite questions. Or worse, why can't you just be happy? It always gives me the mental image of those perky girls that always seem giddy.

Most of the time, I'm not feeling any emotions. I wish there was a word for that (a word that wouldn't incite more questions).
