How do you handle when someone sets themselves up as a rival to you, and the banter and mickey taking that happens in such a situation? Friendly rivalry, I mean, where there isn't any animosity but IS a serious banter surrounding it. This could be where you are both playing some sort of game regularly, or are supporters of rival sports teams etc. and you have someone humorously teasing you about how they've beaten you, or how confident they are of beating you. All I can come up with is saying things like "We'll win next time" or "That was a fluke". It's fun and all, and light hearted, but the banter that come along with it is awkward. Or maybe it comes naturally to some people, even Aspies sometimes, and either it comes naturally or it doesn't.

I think your sayings are okay. In terms of supporting a team, I take solace in my not being very emotionally attached to an event in which I have no control over the outcome. It might seem smug to say that when someone is attemting to goad you though, when they have tried to show their superiority over you in choice of team supported.

I'm horrible at comebacks. I just accept it I guess!

Healthy rivalries are fun...sometimes.
But sometimes it is hard to tell between healthy and intense.
