A decent start is always the hardest. If you can apologize to the one's you lost, that's usually a good start (especially if they understand your circumstances). But, as far as starting fresh, it's usually a good idea to start with something you're familiar with. Let's say, if you're a chess player, look into the local chess club (this is an example, i dont know if all schools have that). For me, it was the local MAGIC players, and board gamers that I associated with. Try to just let it happen, forcing yourself into a difficult situation is only going to make you more stressed. It'll take some time, but you'll be glad you didnt rush into anything.
