I noticed that banner on the front page of this forum with the guy doing the L sign up at his forehead which if I'm not mistaken means "loser". I've been called a loser once or twice and I really hate that label. I don't know what criteria someone needs to meet to be a loser which is what makes it a complicated matter. What the hell is a "loser"?

"2.
a. One that fails consistently, especially a person with bad luck or poor skills"

Not a great message to send to the world in any case.

I've been wondering what that 'L' was supposed to represent. It's not apparent from the text.

I really don't mind being called a loser (and I've been called one a lot more than once or twice). I know I'm one, and it's not like it makes you a bad person or anything. As the definition above says, it's either the result of bad luck or poor skills. I definitely have no control over the former, and I feel I have limited control over the latter.

I didnt like the pic either and adblocked it. I think the author is trying to make a joke but it kind of presses a few buttons so isnt perhaps so amusing to some.

I'm not a loser. I'm a winner. I'm only second to Chuck Norris.

It's because they were talking about going back to school and the movie Loser is about a guy who is starting his first year of college. I watch a lot of movies though. It does seem a bit odd to put on here without explanation.

The anti-intellectual majority defines "loser" as anyone who displays innate interest and curiosity towards activities other than obtaining sex or other gender-specific stereotypical interests. A knuckle-dragging thug who walks around with his pants drooped around his knees is not a loser. A loser is someone who reads mathematics for fun.

That article kind of ticks me off as well. I'm sick of people feeling like they have to apologize for being intellectually curious. That kind of self-deprecation doesn't serve any positive purpose. It only re-enforces certain sh***y attitudes.

Well, those 'sh***y attitudes' are winning, and winning enough to define the playing field - therefore, we effectively are losers.

"people see me as a loser because I have an interest in X"
Is not the same as
"I see me as a loser because I have an interest in X." This latter one implies low self-esteem.

x being uncommon things like science, mathematics..

Big difference.

In our country L means Learning, because you have it on your car when you learn to drive.

If you become rich, then you will be a rich loser.
You then can pay for dating advice from teenage looters, people from Jeremy Kyle show, or a wife beating alcoholic.
All of whom have strength of character, discipline of mind, and patience that you are lacking, or else you would have
also have found love.

Aspie_Chav, I thank you for this lovely anime picture of a redhead, it makes me so happy :D

But anyway, I can see how that picture is offensive to the Asperger/Autistic community as we are normally ridiculed for being "different" and therefore a "loser" in a typical teenager's mind and really the author should of thought about how that picture could effect first time users on this website if they were looking for help about relationship/friendship issues and have difficulty with bullying.
