Short response
Hi,
I had sent out a bunch of e-mails to a whole list of people and while attaching holiday letters. One of these people who I had attempted to send the letter to had bounced back. So I had looked them up on Facebook and attempted to write a private message asking for their e-mail address so that I could send the letter. They then wrote back to me a few days later and said,
"It's good to hear from you. I hope you're enjoying your independent life." There was nothing after that and she didn't acknowledge that I was sending her something. I did write back by teasing them and saying, "Yeah, being independent was a good choice for me, huh." (She used to talk that way to me all the time and I hated it). However, I found out that you could attach things on Facebook and so I attached the letter. She hasn't even written back yet to acknowledge the letter that I had sent.
Long story short, this person and I had a falling out a little over two years ago when I had managed to invite them to something and they agreed to go. Due to several misunderstandings, it didn't work out and this individual got all freaked out and thought something may have happened and nearly called the police. When they found me, however, they opted to have nothing more to do with me while coldly pushing me away even though I had attempted to apologize.
I know they must still be bitter but I wanted to send one letter because that way the ball would have been in their court. I was bitter about it for a long time but I am trying to forgive and move on.
However, should I have even made an effort at all? How should I handle short responses like that in the future? If I need to say anything to this person, what should it be without putting the other person on offense?

I had spoken to a close friend about this individual and they said that this it didn't sound like this person really seeked to re-connect. They also suggested to me that I did the best I could to give this individual one more chance and that response proved that they were not interested.
I wasn't trying to re-connect to the point of getting together and meeting for lunch or going over to their place or vise versa. I was more interested in a distant connection where we see how each other are doing from time to time.
