Do hipsters, being a subculture that only exists in the US, and a minority, represent aspies somehow? I mean, they dare to be different, dress differently, keep to themselves, and that seems to piss people off to the point of pure hatred. In a way, hipsters seem to be on the autism spectrum.

Vegan Hipsters can kiss my vegan ass

Take a look at that example. There's a even a Facebook group called that. Why would Vegans even bother to blame hipsters for bacon? Just a fine example of the word hipster meaning what
the word gay meant forty or fifty years ago.

I'd say if anything emos would be more like aspies...or are hipsters the college equivalent to emos?

There are definitely hipsters in the UK. Hipsters here are seen as stupid, and made fun of accordingly. I perceive them as not at all on the autism spectrum. The hipsters I have met seem relatively NT.

How much of a difference is there between Emos and Hipsters?

Hipsters just pretend to be different to fit in with other hipsters like all these other stupid "subcultures" dumb teenagers subscribe to.

Emos (http://images.sodahead.com/polls/000794 ... large.jpeg) hat themselves, hipsters (http://check-me-out.co.uk/blog/wp-conte ... 9/hip2.jpg) pride themselves on doing things before they were cool and not conforming top the norm, i.e. mustaches, leg tattoos on show, backpacks, hardcore. They all look similar, which is where the irony lies.

According to urban dictionary:

Emo:Genre of softcore punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 year olds who dont smile, high pitched overwrought lyrics and inaudible guitar rifts with tight wool sweaters, tighter jeans, itchy scarfs (even in the summer), ripped chucks with favorite bands signature, black square rimmed glasses, and ebony greasy unwashed hair that is required to cover at least 3/5 ths of the face at an angle.

Hipster:Referring to young people of around 18-30 years of age, who drink cheap beer (most often Pabst Blue Ribbon, on occasion Budwiser), smoke Parliaments, Lucky Strikes or hard to obtain foreign cigarettes (such as Gauloises) and take recreational drugs, coke being the most popular. Use a great deal of sarcasm, claim to be ironic. Are usually less than 5% body fat, drink copious amounts of coffee and eat children's cereal. Listen to Indie Rock, rely heavily on Pitchfork Media to tell them what's cool. Don't dance at concerts. Wear a mixture of thrifted clothing and items bought at American Apparel (commonly Tri-blend v-necks) and Urban Outfitters. Extremely tight jeans worn by both sexes, pairing these with either a band or b-movie t shirt and a plaid shirt/v-neck and a cardigan along with Nike hi-tops/Vans/Keds. Females often wear retro style dresses and racerback tank tops without bras. Eschew public transport and instead choose to ride fixed-break bikes. Often claim to know about literature and film - will have googled a good deal of Vonnegut and French New Wave cinema.

meh I don't keep up or care about labels

I love that video! I was looking for it, because my son was asking what a hipster looks like. I try to point them out on the train. There are many Hipsters in Scandinavia also, although I will say they seem less affected and natually geek chic, less emphasis on ironic. Scandinavians have a rather introverted (except when drunk) and artsy/techy culture.

There are probably hipster Aspies and (some) "emo" Aspies.

Mostly nerds, though. Though, in college, i will probably be a "hipster" too.

Hipsters that I've known mostly seem to be NTs who want to appear knowledgeable about obscure things but don't really know much about the world outside of their social circles and local neighborhood. They like to read biographies of semi-famous historical figures and pretend to know how to play the mandolin. I dated one in high school. He frustrated me to no end.

Now, you want to meet some segments of culture full of Aspies, look for scientists, like chemists or botanists and such. University professors of all types are Aspies too, as are many visual artists like graphic designers and film students. OH and alot of the people that attend TED conferences lol!

Here's a great example of Sir Ken Robinson talking at a TED; he describes parties of University professors as a bunch of 'floating heads' awkwardly convulsing to music, who can't wait to leave so they can go back to their studies. Sounds like the perfect example of a party full of Aspies!
