I'm terrible with birthday cards...

It'll be someone's birthday or something and we'll have a card to give them. My wife will just pick up a pen and then casually scribble the most heartfelt epic stuff, and then she hands it me. "Your turn." after 5 minutes of agonizing brainstorming I'll write something like "hope today is special" I hate it. I mean, you buy a card that already has something written in it. If one is going to do more then sign their name, why not just buy a blank card? I don't get it.

I just put "from myname" in cards. That is when I even bother to get people a card.

If it's a card for someone who is an acquaintance, or a work colleague that I'm not particularly close to, I write:

"Hope you have a nice day"

If it's a closer friend/colleague:

"Many happy returns. Hope you have a brilliant day"

Cards are kinda pointless to me. You have my complete sympathies though, coming up with cheesy emotional stuff is annoying. Usually I make some form of poetic writing that sounds like a metal lyric that isn't well received.
