Why am I offended?

I went to a gathering today for the holiday weekend earlier today and one activity involved getting wet. The host had also asked that we bring a towel to dry off. I did not bring one because I thought I would air dry. I ended up getting in the water and upon getting out realized that I was dripping everywhere. So I asked for a towel. The host was sort of put to offense and mention

"Then I guess you have a little issue don't you?"

I shouldn't let it bother me. It was one statement.

Am I reading it funny or what?

Well it depends on how it was said (jokingly or seriously), but it does sound like a somewhat rude comment. That said, since it was said to bring your own towel, it's understandable that the host might be a little annoyed that you didn't have one. Overall though I'm sure it's not a big deal at all, I've had stuff like that happen to me before as well.

It's NOT a big deal and I am sure they were stressed out. I am trying not to let it get to me. We don't really connect to begin with but they are a neat person and I enjoy going to their things. I get along with them to a point but it's more when they talk at me during certain times when they are educating. Just not on a personal level. Do you think the possibility of me not clicking with the individual have something to do with me being somewhat upset?

Part of me wanted to cry that comment was openly made but I was able to hold back and I also did not bother to fire back.

Was she being serious? If she was it sounds like she was being extremely rude.

They were serious about it. However, it was still rude. I know this person is not a jerk. However, we just have never really clicked even though they are such a funny person. I go to their stuff all the time and get a laugh.

It was a lousy thing to say, like an adult chastising a child, not a host speaking to a guest.. Yes, you should have brought your own towel, but you didn't, you were wet, and you needed one. Maybe they didn't like the way you asked for it, but there was no need to reply like that.

Like I said, it was enough to make me break down like a five year old. They are aware that I am on the spectrum but they really don't know me all that well. I am suspecting they are one of us.

From my perspective I think you might feel offended because you did a miscalculation and they pointed it out. If I was in a situation like it and I felt like they where trying to rub it in I'd be annoyed too, but again, this is only my view of the event.

Silvervarg's comment probably was the best out of all the responses on here. Although I did not realize until today when I had enough room to gather my thoughts.

I also did some more thinking that although we are similar people, I am discovering that I feel awkward around them and that it's best if I keep my distance with them because this is a situation where both of us will bring the worst out in each other.
