I would expect there would be more of an alternative culture in missoula, but I haven't spent enough time there to know. I hope your experience is different from mine, but alternative types don't like me any better than straightarrows, although it seems like they should, they don't.
On the other hand, a smaller alternative culture might work better for you. Persecuted minorities tend to stick together more.
Tim, you're thinking about spending four years in these places. I think it would be a good idea for you to go there and have a look around, get a feel for the places, wander around the campus and the town, maybe talk to some people on the faculty, pop in on a seminar, maybe visit some local churches you might be interested in, that sort of thing.
You will have to deal with culture shock. A lot of the highway signs don't have bullet holes.
Actually, I am transferring as a junior, and would be there between 2 and 3 years, wherever it is I am going to school. Boise is bigger and has more job opportunities, but Montana does not require as many classes and allows fewer semester hours per semester, plus the on-campus housing comes fully furnished, while the housing at Boise does not. So it is a tough decision.
Which place would be better for a half-Lutheran, half-secular humanist like myself?
Tim
