I posted a message on a message board that I was selling an electronic code for a large pizza from Papa John's for $5.00.
It normally would cost $17.50.

I was accepting payment by PayPal.

I got a lot of crap for it. Basically implying that it was inappropriate saying I was cheap or I should give it away.

I thought I was being nice.

People sell things on ebay for even less money all the time.

Maybe because people can get pizzas pretty cheap anyway... *Shrug* It's just something usual; I've never heard of people doing that before. You're the first for me.

I think most people would post an e-code/coupon that on a coupon site like retailmenot.com to share it for free.

As usual, Normies have to be abusive and suck horse butts about it.

I mean, what the hell is so dang hard about saying
"Good luck, but you can get buttloads of those for free on www.poopybutt.com"
for example. Oh but no the Normies have to abuse, I guess
they think we enjoy it.

I am amazed at the abuse I am getting.

The codes are not available free anywhere. It is a free pizza.

F*** his entire philosphy and his cat, it's the internet. You were being nice and he's being a douche.

The meaning I derived from similar things is "don't try to help them as a whole, they're not ready for it"

Doesn't seem inappropriate to me. $5 for a large Papa John's pizza? That's a great deal.

I have heard "normal" people say the internet is full of freaks and creeps.

That might be the case here.

Sorry for the delayed response. I've been having Internet connection problems.

You asked for my opinion so here you go:

1) The fact that you asked me to weigh in on this tells me that it genuinely puzzles you. I would not have ordinarily noticed this post. It honestly doesn't seem like an actual problem (no offense), and I think most people probably have the same impression. I think that's partially why you're getting such a negative reaction online when you talk about it. But hey, it's not a big deal. If something doesn't make sense you just gotta ask. This kind of thing happens to NT people too and they just ask.

2) Like the other posters said, electronic coupons are not something that people typically pay for, even if it's a really good deal, like getting a free pizza just for paying five dollars to get the code. It's sort of like charging people to buy tap water at a restaurant. You might make money that way, but it would make people angry because they're not used to paying for something that is typically a courtesy. Free pizzas don't come along every day, but they come along more often than people pay for electronic codes.

3) It's easy for people to be negative on the Internet because no one can see them and the social rules are different. If you worked at a restaurant and offered someone water for the price of $1 a glass, 15 people wouldn't stand up from their tables and take turns calling you a jerk. They WILL do this on the Internet. So it can feel a little overwhelming when you make a small social mistake online and then people respond to it.

So lesson learned, maybe this business model didn't work out. I can see how it could have been confusing.

Nobody likes the "Middle Man" who profits by upselling something.

Also, for most people this probably feels similar to Ticket Scalping. Both society and government loath scalpers. Many such people would probably like to see even what you're doing illegal.

Not saying this makes any sense. It's just that there is a cultural momentum built up of general agreement that scalping is somehow despicable.

I was a ticket scalper, would buy 8 seats for concerts and line up for days to make some extra money camping out, but then again i ventured sleeping in public and being in the wet and cold for sometimes days, but selling a free coupon you got without effort to me is different.

Not saying its not a good deal... but think its kinda in that grey area for me.. cause coupons are usually something not ever "sold"

why are you selling it at all, instead of giving it away?

The competition are trolling you.
You are selling cheaper then they can.

I see nothing wrong with what you did! I think those people are just trying to make you give it to them for free. I would do it too. If it was a family memeber or someone I'm close with, I'd give it free, but it's different with strangers.

I think it was inappropriate for them to say anything! If they didn't want the coupon they could just ignore the post! Why go through the process of trying to insult someone? Also, they don't know your situation at all... what if you were completely broke and were just trying to make a little bit of cash quickly so you could pay for, say, bus fare to work the next day? Some people just love to be negative, especially online when nobody can see them face to face.
