Sorry for the delayed response. I've been having Internet connection problems.
You asked for my opinion so here you go:
1) The fact that you asked me to weigh in on this tells me that it genuinely puzzles you. I would not have ordinarily noticed this post. It honestly doesn't seem like an actual problem (no offense), and I think most people probably have the same impression. I think that's partially why you're getting such a negative reaction online when you talk about it. But hey, it's not a big deal. If something doesn't make sense you just gotta ask. This kind of thing happens to NT people too and they just ask.
2) Like the other posters said, electronic coupons are not something that people typically pay for, even if it's a really good deal, like getting a free pizza just for paying five dollars to get the code. It's sort of like charging people to buy tap water at a restaurant. You might make money that way, but it would make people angry because they're not used to paying for something that is typically a courtesy. Free pizzas don't come along every day, but they come along more often than people pay for electronic codes.
3) It's easy for people to be negative on the Internet because no one can see them and the social rules are different. If you worked at a restaurant and offered someone water for the price of $1 a glass, 15 people wouldn't stand up from their tables and take turns calling you a jerk. They WILL do this on the Internet. So it can feel a little overwhelming when you make a small social mistake online and then people respond to it.
So lesson learned, maybe this business model didn't work out. I can see how it could have been confusing.
