My brother said too me once "when you speak it sounds like your being analysed"

What does that mean?

He said to you that when you speak it sounds like you're being analysed? That doesn't make any sense to me. I have no idea. You could ask him to explain.

I think it means that you talk like you are being watched and judged, like giving a speech or presentation at school. Your talking sounds like you are being very careful about what you say and how you say it, not spontaneous and carefree like people talk in a regular conversation.

Agree ^^

It can come off as insincere because it may sound as if you are just telling the listener what you think they want to hear.. or it sounds like you are "trying" to come off a certain way - apart from yourself.

You should ask your brother to give you examples. THAT would be helpful.

What do you think it means?

How do you feel about it?

How did he say it? At face value it seems like he was saying when you speak you are being watched or judged.

The language used suggests two meanings:

1. "When you (OP) speak, it sounds like you're (OP's brother) being analysed.

- While improper grammar, it would be well within the bounds of normal US (not sure about UK) conversation.

Your brother feels like he's being analyized whenever you talk to him.

2. "When you (OP) speak, it sounds like you're (OP) being analysed.

Couple of ways to follow that one, the ones referenced above and also "it sounds like you analyse yourself".

Any chance you could provide us context and/or an example?
