about 90% of people who meet me assume that i'm shy (i can assure you that i'm not- unless i'm speaking to someone that i really admire), about 5% of people who meet me assume that i am rude / aloof (i'm definately not, in any circumstance) and the other 5% of people who meet me say "aww, you're so sweet!" which makes me want to tell them to f**k off. ugh, it's so patronising. it makes me feel like someone's pet gerbil, or something.

anyone else get the same response?

Seeing as how I'm really short, I get that from people all the time. I got used to it, and have learned just to take it as a compliment. It's better than people talking down to me like I'm a child, which is something I also get.

Yeah, I get that all the time too, because I look younger than my years and come across as shy and naïve. It used to irritate me but I can shrug it off now.

First off, and I don't mean this to be rude, but you meant the other 95%, right?

Anyway, I also get that all the time. I don't consider it patronizing, but I have come to see it as a backhanded compliment - like a nice way of saying that I have no personality.

people who think i'm shy- 90%
people who think i'm rude- 5%
people who think i'm "cute"- 5%
TOTAL = 100%

maths is not my strong point (dyscalculia) but i think i got this one right.

to be honest, i find being thought of as cute preferable to being thought of as rude. but sometimes, when i am trying to convey a point that is important to me, it is frustrating when people treat me in that "ahh, if you look at her little face, it's almost as if she understands" kind of way. this is usually followed by the person talking about me as though i'm not even there!

When I was younger I got "You're so cute" and "You're so sweet" alot.I got that alot until I started dressing like a goth/punk/unique and came out about my bisexuality.THEN people started saying,"Why did that cute little girl start to dress like a freak and act like a queer?"(GRRRRRRRRRness....)

Sometimes when I HAVE to wear bright colors people still say this.

Most people think i'm f**king nuts! Either they are fine with that or not. Most who aren't keep their distance.

other than the percentages being a lot different I'm very much the same. It really annoys me how one of my roomies assumes that because I like to have the room to my door half-closed I must be some kind of fragile creature and is always talking slowly to me like I'm some kind of ret*d. FFS, he should know me well enough by now to realize that I'm just a regular guy

I think the worst thing I've been accused of being is "cuddly." That, I think, trumps "sweet" by a large margin. It made me seem a. fat and b. like I was actually willing to touch the person calling me that (I was not at the time, though I'm trying to get rid of person-specificity now- I think I hugged the person in question a grand total of twice since I've known him).

you've just reminded me of something else i meant to add: when people say (in a silly childish voice) "you look like you need a hug!" to which i want to reply "no, i b***dy don't." :evil:

I rarely get the "You're so sweet!" treatment (though it makes me want to gag when it DOES happen). I'd say at least 30% of the time I'm pegged as Rude and then 65% of the time as Shy. Which isn't true, because 95% of the time I just don't feel like talking.
