The internet bill is in my name and my housemate has refused to pay 8 pounds of said bill due to costs. Weve had 3 mops in as many months 2 of which he bought and one II chipped in for. They were ruined mainly because I blocked the loo and we had to mop up the... spillage. So he has a point in that sense

However

Ive spent around 15-20 pounds or more on washing up liquid, dehumidifiers, A dustpan and brush and Ive spent hours and hours and hours cleaning the entire house on my own (people never offer to help). I would love to have the responsibility of buying a mop and bucket every now and then
This housemate is inclined towards violence and is not* going to back down. To my credit even when he shouted at me and actually squared up I stood my ground

I hate conflict however and in the aftermath I felt physically sick... I know that if I back down my housemates will laugh at me behind my back. I can see it now. He's assuming that I wont stop paying the bill because I need the internet. I can easily hack an "ambient account"however so I really dont care. I jus dont want my housemates to hate me

What should I do im pretty scared that this could all spiral out of control

people cannot use what they do not pay for. i dont know a pound from a penny, but if the mops mean soo much to him, and it costs less than 4 pounds for 2, Give him 2 new ones, take his internet away, because he doesnt pay, and tell him to suck it! just a suggestion.

There are 3 other housemates - i'll have to tell them the new password and theyll tell him

What im going to have to do is cancel the direct debit and just tell everyone that I cant afford to keep the bill in my name because what the "violent guy" did sets a precedent. If he can get away with not paying then people are going to start paying the bill late and deducting costs. How should I do this tactfully though

Block it by hardware MAC address. It's in your router's advanced config somewhere. The folks in the Computers, etc. forum here may be willing to guide you through the process.

From my reading (you owned a mop, the toilet backed up, you used the mop to clean it up) it's just a household expense. Unless someone can prove who backed it up and with what. I personally wouldn't want to go down that road, but maybe you're the detective type, I don't know.

That expense is divided equally among roommates. Just track expenses with a spreadsheet, and assign everyone a share based on equal/bedroom size/whatever.
