I´m a little curious about this as I saw a poll recently by the Pew Research insitute that said more than a third of 18-31 year olds in the US still live with their parents. When did you finally move out of your parents house? How were you able to save money for you own apartment?

I moved out at 18. Retuned at 20. Moved out again at 24. Returned at 30 (after a suicide attempt and hospitalization). Moved out at 31 and stayed out till now.

When I was 18 I was in college. All the other times I had a job to pay the rent.

As independent and strong willed as I am, I have never lived on my own. Always wanted to though, but I hope never to now because that would mean I would divorce DH (I don't want to divorce him right now) or he would be dead, and I don't want either. So, hopefully that's one thing I always wanted to try that I never did.

But, I left at 18 when I got married and we lived on our own for a while, then we moved back in a few months later. I stayed home and then moved in somewhat with another guy after my divorce then back home, then moved to DC with my husband when I was 22 and we married the next spring. I've been with him ever since. We've lived with my mother three times and stayed at his mothers house for a few months once. Other than that, we were on our own.

I was kicked out at 18, I suppose that counts as moving out.

<- 25 and still living at home, but planning on moving out next year, preferably at the start of the year, but finding a place could be difficult because I have certain demands, but also no rush so time enough to find that perfect place.

I moved out to dorm at 18, moved back in at 20, moved back out again at 21. If I'm ever in the situation where I had to live at home for more than a month or two I would just end it.

I didn't move out till I was 27. I had a few times where I was planning to due to finding my mum intolerable, but didn't apply for any units to rent because I had no prior rental history and places that were cheap were in high demand. I ended up moving out after buying my own place (with the money I saved thanks to living at home, well I saved for a deposit anyway).

I moved out at 19, moved back in at 28. I'll be out when I finish college.

My parents are divorced. I lived with my mom til I was 18, then moved in with my dad.
Moved out of my dads at 25,27 & 36. But I still receive financial support from him.
I'm applying for SSD now.

I guess I'll never be truly independent :( At least not financially.

I moved out at the age of 18. My mother died, so my father kicked myself and my younger sister out, so I guess that counts as moving out.
I had to find a job to pay the bills.
