I have a friend (not my girlfriend, so nothing too personal!) who is a girl and her favorite color is purple and her favorite season is fall.

I am leaving for a year in July to study abroad and would like to get her something (again, she's not my girlfriend so keep it under $20) before I leave. Obviously this is well in advance, but the thought just crossed my mind 5 minutes ago and I don't want to forget.

Based on this criteria, what would you recommend? Links?

Purple is my favorite color too but it depends on what she likes. For instance, a purple purse, or a purple phone case, a purple wig (As a gag gift), a purple pony, purple necklace, even a purple grape flavored slush.

You could also get her something purple that represents autumn although it's almost spring.

How about a purple notebook? Unless she keeps strictly to electronics and wouldn't use it.

My favourite colour is purple.

You could always give her a Purple handbag and a purse to match.

Giving gifts to your gf is weird. As if she'd be a prostitute or something.

Gift giving is often seen socially as a sign of affection, not as a non-monetary exchange of goods. Not all relationships are based on economics.

The OP was stressing that this gift was for a female friend and not a girlfriend so that he didn't get gift suggestions that were too intimate for the relationship nor too expensive.

OP, I think this is a very sweet gesture. If purple is her favorite color, a purple fashion accessory that fall within your price range would be very well-received I think. Examples to look for would be earrings, a bracelet, a necklace, a scarf, or headband. If you feel that taste is too subjective, purple colored stationery is also a good gift that fits within your budget.

Hope this helps.
