Housemate hostility due to my cooking
I have 2 very annoying habits. I wash my clothes at night (housemate said dont wash after 8 and I took this literally and put my clothes in at quarter to 8 ) also I cook every hour or so.
My housemate became extremely confrontational (this is the same housemate who was opening my mail and the same housemate who laughed at my ocd cleaning rituals - mocking laughter I guess) because he believed i'd been in the kitchen 2 hours and he wanted to use it.
I dont see why he didnt just work round me as there was plenty of space (huge kitchen) I do often ask for an 5 mins when he comes to use the kitchen because he makes me feel extremely uncomfortable.
I told him that I cooked at 5 went upstairs and then cooked again at around 7.... am I in the wrong here? My other housemate frequently comments on the amount of cooking I do. I fast during the day however (Intermittent fasting) so at night im starving and I cant afford to make sandwiches etc as it would take around 6 slices of bread to form a satisfying meal!

As for laundry, I think it's unreasonable to say no laundry after 8pm.
I understand that they probably dont like it... but why. I do clean a hell of a lot so I thought that that would offset it. Im the only one who bothers to clean. Between 5pm and 12 I cook 5 meals which take 30mins each - so it is alot,, but it doesnt stop anyone using the kitchen.
I understand that its annoying.... just im not sure why really. If they feel they want to use it they can - the kitchen is huge and can accomodate 2-3 people at once. In previous addresses we shared the kitchen space and cooked together with no issues.
The housemate who became very angry also brushes his teeth in the kitchen sink. He just finished doing this 5 mins ago. How do I know? He coughed very loudly and made spluttering sounds. The previous time he came into the kitchen at 7-8 and blocked all access to the sink in order to brush his teeth there (over other peoples' pots and pans) I admonished him for this and he left after "Looking at me"

1. Plan your laundry so that you are done by 8 pm. Easy enough to do if you know how long it takes for the machines to run. I'm not there, but I presume they want to do stuff and the sound of the machines running is distracting.
2. I'm not sure why you need to "cook" every couple of hours, but why not pre-make meals you can store and heat later?
3. It's inappropriate to do personal hygiene where food is prepared...period. He should use the bathroom unless it's an emergency and the bathroom is otherwise occupied or if there is something wrong with the sink in the bathroom.
Honestly, you need different housemates.
Its just the one guy... always the same situation wherever I live actually. Theres always one guy/girl who hates my guts. Maybe they represent the feelings of the entire group I dont know.
I definately need to plan my washing better thats for sure. With the cooking I suppose I could double cook and store, i'd have to buy storage containers though. Thats probably my best bet. I did consider it but ive heard that rice goes off fairly quickly which deterred me somewhat.
After fasting from 1 AM to 5 pm the next day im absolutely dying of hunger - cooking prevents me overeating. If I could just make sandwiches or whip out a premade meal my self control would be seriously tested though its probably a lot better than I give myself credit for given that ive been intermittently fasting for the past 2 months

Hey, I replied to your thread about Intermittent Fasting but you never responded so I'm assuming you never saw it.
I Intermittent Fast too, and one way to get around the constant every couple hour cooking during the feeding time is to cook a bunch of food in advance at the same time.
So what I do is I will cook an entire package of chicken breasts, rice, beef chunks, fish.. Whatever it is that I want to eat. Personally, I usually just eat chicken with rice and a bunch of fruits and veggies, I don't really eat much else, but I do still cook an assortment of foods in advance so I can eat it quickly.
So whenever you go shopping next, come home, cook all your food (2-3 hours in the kitchen), then you've got all your food for the week pre-cooked.
I'm curious though, what made you choose that particular feeding time? Job? School?
As of right now I fast from 10pm to 2pm. Usually get my work out in at 12 so by the time I get out I can start eating. How many meals do you eat during your eating window? I typically eat about 3-4.

Huh? Did he mean he didn't want the washer running passed eight? 15 minutes isn't enough for the load to finish.
My housemate became extremely confrontational (this is the same housemate who was opening my mail and the same housemate who laughed at my ocd cleaning rituals - mocking laughter I guess) because he believed i'd been in the kitchen 2 hours and he wanted to use it.

Why do you need six slices of bread? I only use two for each sandwich. Why does six slices need to make it a good sandwich?

No I make triple sandwiches. It would take 2 triple sandwiches to satisfy me. I just find regular sandwiches leave me feeling MORE hungry. Rice is the only food capable of filling me up economically actually. I only ate 3 times yesterday because after a huge bowl of rice I was totally satisfied

Oh I realised that he probably meant that he didnt want the machine on AFTER 8. I needed to be finished before 8 so I should have put the load in at 6-7.

Hi binaryodes,
What time does this housemate go to bed? If he'd like washing finished by 8 and gets frustrated by lots of late night cooking, it sounds like he is hoping for quiet hours just as you are becoming more active (and noisy) within the house. Do you consider yourself a bit of a night owl?
The differences in preferred activity levels & the times of day they occur is likely one source of the conflict with your housemate.
I also looked up intermittent fasting to get a better feel for what your daily rhythym is like. People that are not familiar with this sort of fasting as a weight loss tool will find not eating all day but cooking&cleaning repetitively through the evening at the very least odd. And to be clear, you cook a portion, serve it immediately to your plate, then Eat, clean and cook another portion again a little while later?
If you do not have food storage containers such as pyrex (a glass container) or tupperware (a plastic container) or any similar brand found widely available in the supermarket, please consider investing in some. Then in the evening, when your fasting is over, cook once the entire amount of rice you expect to consume in the evening, the entire amount of meat, veg, sauce etc. and store it in the containers. It's true cooked rice does not store particularly well over several days, but it will be fine over the course of a single evening. Then serve yourself the prepared food from those containers as your appetite desires. You will only have to cook and clean those pots and pans once as well as limit your time and noise in the kitchen during those evening/nighttime hours.
You might find yourself with more free time and a more pleasant housemate.

I just replied to your other thread heh. I need to start doing this. I just cant afford all the food containers however. I also end up just eating more in the end too. I planned on making 2 portions of rice in one go today for instance. I ended up eating 2 portions of rice in one go

A few things:
1. If you do that much cooking and it drives your roommate crazy there other options you know
a) Look into a mini fridge and microwave for your bedroom
b) How about a slow cooker and a George Foreman. It will make everything better
2. Other areas
a) Have a meeting with your roommate
b) Ask him about why it is so bad to do laundry before 8@ night
c) explain that you feel like he is bullying you around and that he needs to stop
