So I spoke with a costumer service rep right? It was like talking to a vulcan who was so straight laced. While they were not mean or anything I felt like they did not seem to hear me. It was also like they did not seem to want to listen to me and kept repeating themselves. They also nagged at me for not remembering an 8 digit password so they could access my account. Then I tried to give out what I thought it was for the third time and nothing worked.

So I got mad and cursed by saying "G d*&^ it." She started condescending on me about how they did not allow profane words over the phone and how I might need to get off if I did not stop. I said "What ever you are being a dictator b*&^." Then I hung up.

While I know they take lots of abuse those costumer service reps can sometimes be annoying to the point of touching my buttons. Anyone else feel the same way?

Also how have you learned to keep your cool when they are being difficult?

Customer service jobs turn the warmest hearts to stone.

Telling you the company policies is not condescending. It is part of the job.

I sometimes tell them life is a pressure cooker and they are no more than the steam release valve. Most of them are so stuck in their routine they don't even get it.
For the rest these are the type of phone calls I mentally prepare for

I used to be horrible to them. Now I just mimic alot. They can relate to that. I just love the run around. The projection transference and control is fun too. Alot of people get trained to be that way, and they don't know what it is. The whole excuse me sir, this is what it is, here is what I need you to do for me so I can help you, now let me let you talk to this so, and so, in order to get more money out of you, will that be o.k.?, because I really want to help you, and thank you for letting me be such a wonderful caregiver. Have a great day. Ooh I'm sorry sir, I thought we just covered the part about me telling you what to do, where to go, and how much money you need to give me for this conversation. Sir, I'm sorry, but I cannot help you unless you give me what I want, and i tell you what to do. After all you are calling me. Are we finished with this conversation? If we are not than I will sit here, and watch porn, while pretending to agree with you. By the way did anyone ever tell you about that amazingly expensive offer that can make me commission. It is a perfect fit for you, because you are just that way. Then you can have all that amazing extra stuff, and no money.

I will stop now sorry.

I understand you perfectly, Summer Twilight. Anyone can lose their patience with customer service (which is anything but) at times. I have encountered customer service employees who have been very polite and helpful and done a good job in their execution of their task. But the other kind can curdle milk.

And don't get me started on those who try to push something on ya over the phone! They used to be a real pain. Now we're not plagued with those kinds of calls because we're on the no-such-calls list we have here. Unfortunately that list only covers sellers, and not those that are opinion polls. When the usual numbers come up, we screen. I wish we could reserve against them too.

I can relate. The only customer service I ever have to deal with is my internet provider and it is always someone in Manila that I have to speak to. I am pretty tolerant of other cultures, and I can understand them perfectly, but they seem to have trouble understanding me. It might be that I resent having to even deal with customer service on the phone and maybe that translates to their ear socket, so they get gruff with me. Or maybe I just take it as being gruff when really it is all my perception anyway. Plus I have trouble modulating my voice since I seldom speak, so I may be shouting at them. I cant really tell.

So in response, I can understand what you are saying, I just wonder when it happens to me if I am not the one creating the conflict. I honestly cannot tell.

I got frustrated with someone through a celluar service because I made my payment on time but they cut off service on me for almost the whole day. I was concerned that they lost my check on me in one of their corporate stores. However I was allowed to talk with costumer service people. The way they have the system set up is so that you have to have an 8 digit code and another source to get ahold of the information. If you don't have those then they have to send you a text and especially if you talking on the cell phone.

I told her that I was just on the cell phone and could not receive the text and she had this annoying "I'm sorry ma'am." It made me want to puke.
