is this an appropriate way to keep in touch with a friend?

I'm a guy, and i went to this school, shadowing, and I met this girl and we really hit it off, and I got her email. I'm going to shadow one more time this school year, and then I'm going full time next year. Should I keep in touch through email, or after a week of emailing should I ask for her Skype or phone number?

I'd say to definitely email her if you would like to keep in touch, but don't ask for skype or a phone number unless you are sure she is responding to you in a positive way and is interested in getting to know you further, and if she does, do this after several exchanges so that you have a chance to chat and get comfortable. If she asks about your life or your interests, that shows interest. If she gives short answers and does not ask about you, she is likely not interested in keeping in touch.
