Freaking out over embarassing incident

So I went to see a family friend about moving in with her over summer since there's no room at my current address. I go we talk we talk and then the topic comes up so I ask and she has no room. I havent spoken to her in months and she's a dear old soul. She's really been helping our family out but im too wrapped up in my own little world to be able to consider anyone but my navel and me.

Anyway on the way out after dropping everything and bumping into everything;. I bend down to put on my shoes and my lighter falls out of my pocket

She hates smokers

Not only that but this lighter had a rather lewd image on it. I didnt choose it, it was chosen FOR me by the shopkeeper and I didnt know how to say "I'll feel ashamed of this lighter everytime I use it". Indeed everytime I use it I feel like a dirty old man and try to cover the image of the semi nude woman on it.

Anyway it dropped and she must have seen it.

Im freaking out a lot over it as she must hate me now. I didnt call for almost a year and arrive with a pornographic lighter. Unggggh

I doubt that she would care about it much. When someone hates smoking, they usually hate the fact that you smoke, not your person. I also don't think people would care about such small things as your lighter.

The fact you are a smoker isn't usually revealed through possession of a lighter [even scantily clad lady ones].
If you smoke she would have been aware of your habit from the smell of your hair, clothes etc. beforehand.
Also for all she knew you could have been returning the lighter to someone who had left it with you last time they were over.

It is just a lighter.

On the scale of things to freak out about from 1 to 10 ... this is at most a 2.

Besides... irrespective of how "nice" they are, mundies get randomly offended by all sorts of nonsense, and it is nigh on impossible to avoid it all the time.... so when you slip up, best to just forget about it completely.... and accept that people are just going to get pissy for no real reason sometimes just because they're people.

Like you say, you can only see your own navel but thats not what the ladys mind is focused on so shes probably not given your lighter a second thought. If your lighter makes you ashamed though you could try wrapping some gaffa tape around it to hide the image.
