I posted a thread in work and social life that is related to this but it is a seperate topic.

Can anyone here is ASD sense the urgency or anger in a e-mail or text message? I could never before but as I have gotten older, my empathy acuity has become more developed. I recently got an e-mail from a customer and I could sense the frustration and anger even though nasty words were never sent.

usually when someone whose usual typing style doesn't pay too much attention to "proper" grammar, spelling and capitalization sends me a text or email with more proper use of capitalization and spelling, i can assume they have something serious in their minds. most of the time i turn out to be right.

i think i can but i know i could be wrong. I've written messages that i thought were completely cold and logical, but then i look at them later and i could see people thinking i was really worked up. I know personally that i was sitting there, feet up, as unangry as its possible to be, but still read anger into my words when i reread them later.

Maybe nts are easier to read though. Could just be that i applied the rules for reading what nts say when i reread my own messages.

Yes I can tell when someone is angry with me through written communication in big caps or not. I can normally tell by someone's criticism or ridicule. Although you don't hear actual pitch or facial expressions, I can tell by the wording when someone is angry with me.

I could usually discern emotions in an email.

i saw an episode of criminal minds once where there was some guy that was getting some kind of visual synaesthesia when someone lied to him.

He relied on it, believed it utterly. It turned out he got the synaesthesia when he believed they were lying as opposed to when they were actually lying.
(and thats an example of how you can be wrong and not know it, nothing more)

You should treat the belief that you can tell what someones mental state is purely from the words they're saying with extreme caution.
