How to want to have online friendships? How to like it?
I'm a 16 year old male and i've been having a lot of trouble making friends.
There's just not many people at school I can see myself being friends with or would like to get to know better.
But I have been trying. I've been asking already existing friends to introduce me to people who they think I would get along well with but so far nothing has come up.
I used to be content/fine with the amount of friends I had but now I feel lonely and miserable.
I feel like I'm actually LOSING all of my friends.
I had 5 friends. Me and my best friend used to live in the same city, before I moved away. But we still talk online and meet up sometimes. But he is almost never on the internet anymore so it gets lonely now...
There are two other friends and I used to live in the same city as them too, but we still keep in contact online and are planning to meet up after I graduate high school. They are also never online anymore...
I have this friend Sarah at school and she's nice but she's too busy to really spend time with anyone not just me.
And my former friend Alex bloody dropped out...
There's a few acquaintances I have but other than that I feel I have no one.
No one to spend time with, no one to hang out with.
All this has made me dislike online friendships, online relationships, anything online. I have an absolute HATE for it because it has only damaged my current friendships and made me feel extra lonely...
I am trying to make real life friends and this is what I want. Real life friends, real human beings who I can speak to in person and connect to, real human contact and not just some f*cking text on a screen next to a profile picture...
But I am struggling to.
So really I want to try and open up my options.
My questions are, HOW can I want to have online friendships and how can I develop a liking to the idea? Can it be done? Should I really force myself to want and enjoy online friendships even if I do not?
Am I the only one here who actually DOESN'T like online friendships? I honestly feel like I am.'
Even here on WP I am completely anti-social.
I've occasionally messaged others but I almost never do sometimes out of anxiety/fear sometimes because I just don't want to.
Even other's have been kind enough to make the iniative to message me but I ignore their messages or get too anxious to respond back..
I post in the forums, of course, but it's not really much beyond that...
My inbox has been 0 new messages for the past 3 months now...
Can't you make friends with somebody right here on WrongPlanet? That would be a good start.
You can't force yourself to "like" making online friends. Either you do or you don't.
Maybe you are one of those who would rather SEE the person they are talking to, rather than merely seeing typed words. Maybe there's a trust issue--you never know if that person is really what he/she represents him/herself to be. Unless you actually TALK to the person (say, via Skype, at a minimum), you can't totally trust the online person (who could be a figment of their own imagination!)
It's similar to why some people won't shop online--they want to see what they're buying.

Yes I do want to try and make some friends on here really. Trust issues? Yes, thank you that could be part of it.
My best friend prefers online friendships and has had a lot of online friendships over the years, mainly because he loves video games and playing them online.
But for him as well he has lost a lot of online friends simply because they lost interest in the games.
He used to have about 15 online friends he would play roleplay games with, and has lost pretty much every single one of them.
He made friends with a girl online and would skype with her and developed a romantic attraction to her, but she is never online anymore and it makes him upset.
Online just feels so unreliable...
You either do or you don't? Well I guess I don't then, but it would still be nice to have someone to talk to and get to know.
I'm very disappointed you didn't have anything to say to me at all about my original reply that I have deleted now. I'm so effing tired of people not liking me because I don't like video games. I had some things I said that you could relate to, but you probably just were entering "ignore that person" mode once you hear the "I don't like video games at all" part. I hate this world, I want to go to one where people like real things and not f*cking video games!!
Feel like breaking something right now. Sh*t!!

I've...just got a lot on my mind right now...
It's unrelated to video games...I'm not much of a gamer myself.
We do share some interests and seem alright...it's just...stuff in my life right now that's all.
Ok, I apologize for being wrong about that. That's one of my symptoms of Aspergers, when people don't reply to me, and then I see they've replied to other things instead, I start thinking they are ignoring me because they don't like something about me or my post.
I feel much better now. Just feels like nobody likes me because I'm not into video games. I don't hate them, they just give me bad traumatic memories of my adolescence, a time where I was very unhappy, and in an unhappy living situation, and I don't want to remember that time. Plus I get nausea from the motion on just about every game. (I didn't when I was a teenager though for some reason).
The reason I deleted my post was because I don't want to make that online friend I referred to feel bad if they come across it here (they know my screen name), so I really didn't want it up there too long without garnering a response, and I felt like I was never going to get one.
Anyway if you want to see it again, just PM me and I'll PM it to you. I just want a friend who I can relate to, especially with the online friend situation, and you seemed to have the same situation so that's why I told you my situation. Anyway sorry for getting angry.
