Making Friends on Wrong Planet

After almost two years of being on this site, I've officially decided that I want to start making friends on Wrong Planet. With that in mind, I have a few questions about the online friendship-making process. How do I communicate with my newly acquired friends? Will I be receiving PMs from my newly acquired friends? Will I be receiving emails from my newly acquired friends, and if so, should I get a new email address if I want to use my current email address for other purposes? What do I do if my supposed friend turns out to be a foe? Is this even the right forum for these kinds of questions?

Just genuinely commiserate with a person when he/she is down. It's easy to make friends that way.

Also: share your interests, and acknowledge the other person's interest. That would take you a long way.

There isn't much to it, just have to start some form of conversation and let it roll on from there. Imagine that you or the other person(s) would have an idea of how to communicate be it pm here, skype, fb messenger, carrier pigeon,snapchat, or other trending means of communication. The email concern ties into the last one and if you just communicate here the furthest use of it would be the almighty notification of a new message. An if they should turn out to be a foe simply send them to Siberia or any other harsh environment with labor/detainment camps, but assuming that you're not the leader or a party member of a major, or minor, dystopian state you would probably just agree to part ways. No earthly idea on the forum question though, but imagine it is.

Could probably just add a post here bout one/some of your interest, see if anyone responds, and run with it from there

Is there a thread somewhere for people to list their interests specifically? I haven't seen one yet....

maybe that's a sign that someone needs to start one

I haven't had any luck making friends here.

I find scores of people on WP that share mutual interests...I reach out...engage regarding the topic...and .....crickets....

Oh sure they may answer a question or make a comment but they don't engage beyond that at all.

Many ignore PMs.

It is very disappointing to me.

People here are cold and aloof.

I make kind supportive comments as well as say things like "I note that we are both interested in _______, if you ever want to chat or share interesting articles you read let me know. "

and nada, zilch, no takers

and its weird because they clearly LOVE talking about ______ and we are both knowledgeable about it and still.....nothing.

What can ya do?

Keep on trying that's what you can do. Just a matter of getting lucky and if you're like me you have the wild card luck that's all over the place.

Pretty interesting interest you have there. I myself am a bit of a history nut. Through my outlook though if something has already happened its history which some what means I dabble in a little bit of everything. Always open to chat if ever you or anyone else is interested. Don't mind the company and always curious about just about anything

Take the first step as hard as that sounds and don't give up if you fail a few times would be my idea. Most people are skittish here, myself included. It might take awhile though and it might take a bit of luck, because unless you're using the friendship boards where you just spout off everything there is to know about yourself, it's going to take awhile to find someone who has more than just one interest in common. Those boards rarely work either I used to try them on another forum before this one and never got anything. Most people wont create further dialogue if you only briefly talk to each other once in a thread. Kind of like real life.

I don't have any "friends" here yet either. I do have a few allies though that could develop into being friends, I suppose I should take my own advice and get around to PM them about stuff.

Several of the senior members here are of or around your age. One such member even responded to this thread earlier and from what I know of him he is a rather intelligent individual. Don't really know if he or any of the other members match up to all of your criteria. Though with a bit broader search several people here are rather interested and informed on some of the subjects you had mentioned. Hope I helped in your search for a pm-pal.

Should be this one. Admittedly, people seem to put up a short bio and then never touch the thread again - your mileage may vary.

My interests are mostly spending time on computer & this forum looking up random stuff. Listening to music which rite now is classic-rock, comedy, country, & pop.
