I was never interested in making friends as I very often feel discomfort near people. People in real life often say I lack of social skills on a more serious level and that being my friend is a challenge as they are failing to approach to me. I simply don't feel like belonging into any group where NTs are. I can't be touched by the people I don't know or having lack of trust into them, I feel like shaking, let alone eye contact. I do have close family and wife that I go along with, but everything else seems to be impossible for me.

However, one day I met one guy on the internet. That ice and discomfort autistic people know about was very low. I am type of a person with very narrowed mindset I must admit. However, when I met that guy something changed in me. I figured it might be the communication without actual contact. It did helped me a lot and we go along. I do have problems with accepting few facts about him due to not being able to put myself into someone else shoes. He is a gay and that often used to make some kind of discomfort due to my mindset. Please do not take me wrong here. I do not hate anyone or I want to discriminate people around. I was taught all my life that being gay is wrong and since I am autistic I absorbed that very well and I am aware. I do feel that I might be insulting him sometimes but I really care about him because he is probably only actual friend I ever had or trusted to.

Do you have any similar experiences to suggest and so on? I would hate myself if I move that guy away from me. I hope you all understand me and that you understand the fact that we with Aspergers tend to be arrogant for some and even to the high extremes. I would simply like to keep him near me. He is really one of the few people I can talk with. Thank you.

I have a friend IRL that I do not share beliefs with, and in some other ways on the surface we are very unlike. But, we share some interests and have a "connection." It's OK! It's OK to be friends with someone different than you.

Frankly, I don't think we aspies can be too choosy. If we connect with a person and vice versa, we've got to go with it!

Maybe you should tell him that you are continuing to grow as a person, that you enjoy his friendship, that you are getting used to having a gay friend, and apologize if you unintentionally insult him.

I've heard a lot of aspies say that it's easier to be friends with someone who is a social outcast for some reason or another because they are more accepting of people who are different. Gay people, especially guys, have to deal with a lot of judgement and discrimination. I say "especially guys" because it's socially more acceptable for a woman to be masculine than for a man to be feminine. And masculine gay men have their own discrimination within the LGBTQ community.

In fact, I'm doing an independent study about Passing in Autistic People and one of my readings is about gay men having to pass as straight.

And I agree. Take friendship where you can find it!
