I hate when people use this excuse to defend hypocracy. If two people got into a fight, both of which were equally bad, then they should have equal consequences. What often happens is that one person is deamed the hero and gets praised for it, the other gets dreamed the villain and gets much worse things happening to him than he ever did to "deserve" his punishment.

You should always expect people to support whichever side they think it'll be more advantageous for them to support, and not give a damn about who is in the right. Don't worry---they'll have no trouble distorting evidence and resorting to all manner of fallacies to reach the conclusion they want, and, if you're an aspie, and haven't learned a lot about how to combat them, you'll be utterly powerless against them.

I think we have all made that excuse at one time or another. Sure they maybe they did ask for it in the form of whatever it is but that was before you had to grow up and learn that you can't always punish the other party for their shenanigans. That's more the less sinking to their level while using a defense mechanism. I used to say that all the time when I let my temper or anger get the best of me.

If you have the power to punish someone, you're not sinking to their level by punishing them; rather, you're showing convincingly the one thing that makes you absolutely superior to them and grants you the last word: your power.

I would not have thought about the last say being a part of trying to prove that you are superior. I always looked at "Well you deserved it" as a sign of proving that you have a self righteous attitude while everyone is wrong.

I often said that when I hurt people who I thought were bullies.

I'm not sure how I would react to this, but I know I always feel remorse for the other person especially if I'm right. A lot of times I would rather lose at almost anything because it seems I do not learn as much as I do from defeat.

If I notice someone who is constantly losing and does not seem to learn from their mistakes, it makes me feel really bad because I do not know what to do to help. It seems some people are unwilling to learn.
