...with me making friends and fitting in. As much as I have a sense of humour and watch lots of silly comedies etc. I seem to have developed an annoying habit of coming accross as completely passive and humourless. I don't know why this is, I mean I think funny things and often feel like laughing but it never seems to come accross online or in RL. I don't know whether it is some kind of mental block (cf. stereotypical British stiff upper lip) or whether it is just a deficiency in my personality that I can't engage in humour with other people. It isn't even as if I have a reputation to maintain or even particularly want to come accross as overly serious; that is just how it seems to end up. It isn't even just nerves either as it happens online too. Anyone else ever feel like that?

I find that sometimes. I find that when I'm in a situation where people are joking or the conversation is becoming very light-hearted, I often don't know how to respond, so usually don't say anything at all.

Just the opposite with me. Usually people are cracking up laughing when I wasn't trying to be funny!

I once got a reference that said I àppreciate the humour that other people bring to work`
Thought that was very tactful....
However in other situations, such as my evening class I am the `class clown`.
Different coping strategies for different situations.

I think one of my other problems is that when I do manage to try and use humour; it always ends up feeling like I have said something really innapropriate and I want to retract it. I guess it ishard to no0t end up sounding sarcastic or plain mean.
