Last night I was watching some videos on youtube which happened to revolve around some funny clips on "The Big Bang Theory." Someone, who has a google + account said they missed the older episodes that focused on the goofy humor and not relationship drama. I responded by mentioning that I missed his fun catchphrase "Bazinga!" Now the clip that I was watching happened to be the episode where Sheldon was in the ball pit saying that.

I got a very strange response from them "Summer just shut up."

Could I have said anything that could have triggered the response? If so why?

It seems a bit rude, as you were on topic

Maybe they were saying it a light hearted way?
I have no idea really

I expect they don't much care for "bazinga!"

A. Sabreclaw, then why would they even bother to watch that clip if they didn't like the catch phrase? That makes not general sense.

B. Social skill wise, I have a habit of stating the obvious which a family member used to point out to me
1. They used to bring groceries home and I would blurt out the word "Groceries!"
2. Another time a family member and I were talking about me wanting to do certain activities for a vacation and they talked about them getting us discounts. Me: Oh to save money?
3. At a previous job one I time saw a vacuum cleaner that they purchased and I asked if they got a new one. Their response was sarcastic "Naw you're just seeing things because you hallucinate.

Could I have been stating the obvious?

Maybe they were kidding? I honestly don't know. Perhaps ask them and find out?

Also- I like Big Bang Theory too. :P

Just shutting up is a great idea more often than not. People usually like the sound of their own voice way better than that of yours.

I was made fun of for stating the obvious, too, and it led me to avoid at all costs saying anything I thought could be obvious, which made most conversations incredibly awkward.

Summer:
The answer to that is: it depends. Do you know this guy? Have you had interactions with him before? If so, is there rapport? If the answer is no to these questions than my guess is he is being snarky. In that case he is being my favorite internet guy: the troll. One that says stuff that tries to lure people into arguements, in fact you do not have to say anything for that person to say something jerky. Reading the interactions, I did not get a sense that you said anything wrong, you were simply trying to have a conversation. My advice: ignore him.

No I had not interacted with him or her before and I would have never guessed they were a troll based on what they said before which was that they missed the episodes that were based on the silly nerdy stuff the show was based on. They also pointed it out that they hated the relationship drama now a days. That's when I admitted that I missed the word "Bazinga."

I did respond but I did not call them any names or use any profanity. I simply said "Are you kidding me? You would have the gall tell someone to shut up? That's rude and it hurts my feelings."

I also blocked them

You're reading too much into it. People make stupid, pointless comments all the time. I pay no attention to them. Who knows why he/she told you to shut up? It's only some random person that you know nothing about who could be a total nutcase for all you know.

It's best not to even bother to respond.

Thank you everyone for your responses but I will go with what the last few posters said.
