Had a chat with a sales assistant thinking she used to work for the company I worked for. She was friendly and looked familiar but I think I might have mixed her up with another former colleague.

Not sure though.

Anyone else ever had a moment when you think you've seen the other person before when you might not have. Or had the reverse happen when someone thinks that of you.

Yeah, a few times.
Although the reverse situation hasn't happened yet.

Yes a handful of times. So embarrassing afterward. And also talking to someone who I don't remember meeting before or knowing I know the person but with absolutely no idea how or from where. That's the worst. I think I generally pull it off though. It's strange. I don't really have have a problem recognizing faces. I think I just have a horrible memory and compensate too much and sometimes get it wrong.

No, not that exact situation. But often, people walk up to me and start talking to me like they know me, even though I can't remember meeting them.

I also often wave to people a lot thinking that it's someone I know, but it's actually someone else.

I've had it before where someone recognizes me, but I don't know who they are. Or I recognize them, but don't remember their name.

The reverse has happened to me a few times.

The only times I've ever mistaken a stranger for someone I know are when I was a small child and mistook strangers for my parents because I was identifying people based on very limited visual information and either couldn't see the person's face or didn't think to look at their face. (Like when I was a toddler and ran up and hugged some random guy around the legs because random-guy was wearing the same color jeans and had approximately the same sized legs as my father.)
