I always feel like I don't belong, so I'm not good at including myself in a group. I'm always on the outside. I always feel like I'll just make a nuisance of myself.

I don't know how to overcome that.

Well, I guess the obvious answer is try a bit harder and talk to people, but I have that mental block that I don't belong, so I don't know how to take that first step.

I think I push friends away because of it. I would prefer a specific invitation to join in, but I don't think that most people communicate like that.

I think I'm sort of the same. If found though that I can sometimes talk to people if I have a reason and I won't see them again. Maybe you should set yourself a task like asking a stranger for the time or asking another question.
I'm not much help though when it comes to fitting in groups. I'm not good at it so I always like to be in control of a group if I must be in one.

Yeah, I find strangers easy to talk to as well. I just discuss the task and that's it.

It's so much more difficult to build a friendship. I always feel like I need an excuse to converse with someone. If I don't have that excuse or reason to talk to them, I have nothing to say and can't think of anything to say.

I don't really do small talk.

I'm the opposite. I find it easier to talk to prior acquaintances than strangers, but then, I barely ever talk in either case.
