Thanks! He has been there for me as much as he could so I do want to show my support and condolences.
Yep, funerals are usually open to all. You might want to find the officiant (priest, senior family member etc.) if you are still concerned about the family's privacy. At a graveside service, you may stand back from the service while still being within earshot.
But, if I were you, I would attend without fear.
