the irony of "owning up" to mistakes
Why is it that whenever I try "owning up" for mistakes I made in the past, people get mad at me for bringing up s**t from the past? It's a lose-lose situation. If I don't bring stuff up, people think I'm not being honest. If I do bring stuff up, people think I'm an idiot who can't move on. The longer I move on, the longer people think I haven't moved on it when I have to bring something up for whatever reason.
maybe they haven't quite picked up on why you're bringing it up - that is, to own up to it. it might not be clear, i don't know how you present it.
in a case like yours i'd let as little time as possible pass to own up to it (though my own actions don't always reflect it). everyone is different, i recently let half a year pass before owning up to something, and everything turned out fine.
