It's a natural part of life for someone to be looked at as a narcissist. It happens most of the time when someone suddenly gets a leadership position or manages to pull through with less effort in comparison to most people who had to do more. We all can be that "guy". I'm not lying when I say this, because I remember back in high school with the teachers who are trying their best to help us they can be talked about behind their backs. Want to know what would stop someone from not caring so much that you are the leader if you start making them the leader and soon that person would get the same treatment. Suddenly with that person being the leader they start getting told that they are a narcissist, and so it goes to the next leader, "narcissist", and so on. It's not like the wheel got invented; this happens so many times in life. Like that famous quote in The Shining, "work and no play makes jack a dull boy.". Before that film came out that line was less creepy.
