Being open-minded to listening to people does not mean let yourself be a victim. You should take precautions when you do become a victim. Open-mindedness does not equate to allowing yourself be bullied in your life. Remember if the person does not respect your space or you as a person, you have every right to be close-minded to that person. If that was the case there would be no such thing as a justice system and we would all be back to being slaves for rich and powerful people like in Ancient Egypt, and that's not a life that we honestly want.

When people say that we need to be more open-minded, I think what they really mean is that we should agree with whatever they are telling us, no matter how absurd.

To me being open minded just means accepting anything about people and not judge them for it. It does not mean agree with them or have to do things you don't wanna do like play Tennis or go to Egypt or go to church or read about something you have no interest in. It also means trying to be understanding.

I have been called closed minded just because I wouldn't read about the "proof" of the Holocaust never happening or because I wasn't interested in going to church. Uh no I am not reading BS or going to do something I have no interest in. I only read BS if I want to know why people believe that garbage like Obama's birth certificate being forged. It's always interesting to see where conspiracy theories come from and why people deny things when in fact there has been proof it happened.

In other words, someone called you close-minded because you wouldn't read about bogus claims that the Holocaust didn't happen. They are so convinced of the "rightness" of their interpretation, then anyone who doesn't adopt that interpretation is close-minded. After all, they believe that if you considered their argument with an "open mind" then you couldn't possibly disagree with it.
