On Thanksgiving, I went visit on friend who is 31 years old and lives with her parents and works at a restaurant part time though she is a 4 year degree and is lab certified. Like me, she is on the spectrum and is a bit more quiet but doesn't seem to assert herself. Yet, she is willing to socialize even though she never says very much.
Meanwhile, her siblings have had one success after another and they are living on their own with great careers. If that's not enough, two of them are dating professional soccer plays in the men's soccer leagues.
Anyway, when I was there, one of them told me that her professional soccer player boyfriend is moving to another state in the spring and she is going with him. I mentioned that maybe it's time my friend live on her own too and yet, this sister got a smart with me about it.
"Oh this is a big house and I think it's better for her to help mom clean the house since our parents will be empty nesters," then she walked up the stairs laughing. After hearing this, it's clear her siblings they they better than my friend as well as above her. Her mom also thinks she's above me to a degree as well even though I have been on my own and have a career.
How do I stand up for my friend without coming across as immature myself and throw fuel on the fire.
