Why did my friends hate my family when I was younger?
OK I'm aware that this is going back like 18 years or so but because there's not a lot else to think about at the moment other than coronavirus, some of my past is coming back to me and I've found a memory that I'd forgotten about all these years.
When I was 12 I had these two "friends" (not really friends, just 2 girls from my class I went about with because I'd known them the longest). But they both seemed to hate my brother and my cousin who I was close to.
They told me that my brother and his friends smashed them up against the lockers and threatened them - which I knew wasn't true because I knew my brother and his friends were nice boys and would not bully younger girls (or anybody) like that. Also when I was playing football with these so-called "friends" one time in PE, they told me to kick the ball harder and added "pretend it's your brother's head". Obviously I did not pretend it was my brother's head, because I didn't hate him that much.
Then they also told me that they heard my cousin telling her friends that she hated me and that she'd never liked me even though our mums were close sisters and I'd always been close to her. I believed it at the time and felt very hurt, but now when the memory came back to me I don't think it was true. I'm still close to my cousin now and I know she loves me like a best friend.
Why do you think these so-called friends told me these lies? Do you think they hated my family, or did they just want to see me miserable and feeling unloved?
