How do I meet people if I don't go alone to the pub, e.g.?
I've tried pubs but they've never appealed. I wouldn't (myself) go there looking for people to socialize with, partly because pubs are a horrible oversensory environment and partly because I'd rather go looking for people who did things other than go down the pub.
I'd probably try:
- local meetups of groups which had an online presence I was involved with
- local special interest groups, probably fans of authors, or science- or sci-fi-based
- public university lectures and events
- the local by-and-for-autistic-adults social group, or one of the other neurodiversity groups
- groups which have meetups but aren't primarily based around socializing, i.e. they have some kind of non-social focus or interest and the socializing is secondary
- university student groups of interest - often they will accept non-student members to swell their numbers and forge links with the local community
