Hi,

I'm just curious to know if there is anyone on wrong planet either from the Atlanta area or in any of the surrounding states. I enjoy reading, going to plays, music concerts, and even though I live in an urban setting I do find nature to be very soothing when I get the chance to experience it. I tried so hard to be "normal" my whole life and decided, for better or worse, to be myself as long as it doesn't infringe on anyone else's rights. I'm 37 and looking to meet some people I can relate to. I didn't get figure out I had Asperger's until late in life and now I am glad I have an explanation as to why I am different and there has always been a wall up between me and other people and no matter how hard I tried I can never remove the wall between myself and other people. I recently discovered how soothing astronomy is; looking at pictures of comets and other celestial bodies is really soothing and I'd like to learn some more about it. I tried so hard to be "normal" in the past that I fear I neglected intellectual growth in some respects out of trying so hard to be normal. It feels like I have had an awakening of sorts.

Lia,

I am originally from Georgia, so your subject header attracted me to your thread. I now live in NC. I'm not an Asperger's person. I am the parent of one. However, after reading your post, please let me know if I can help you. Let me explain.

You indicated two areas of interest that are also interests of mine: astronomy and nature. If you can't tell from my username, I am a climber. Rock climbing, ice climbing, mountaineering. Mountaineering being my obsession. I've been to places most people will never see. Places of rock and ice, devoid of life, devoid of smells. I've felt the humbling weight of Mother Nature's fury on several occasions and I'm only here today by her mercy. If you want to know about living and experiencing the outdoors, mountains or not, maybe I can provide some guidance and advice.

I am also an amateur astronomer - much less experienced in this than climbing. But still, I know some things about equipment, methods, and what's in the heavens above. It is a fun hobby, but oftentimes for the beginner, expectations exceed equipment capabilities. Nevertheless, I will always remember my first view of Saturn through a telescope. Awesome!

If you think I can help, please feel free to contact me.

Best of luck.

David
