I bought a jar of Emeril's marinara sauce from the grocery store at about 2-3 PM. At night, I figure, "Gee, wouldn't pasta be pretty good right about now?" So I open it and...blegh! It seems as though someone had opened it earlier and stuffed what looks to be a dumpling and slice of rotten tomato in it.

My question is this: Do I go back to the store to get a new one and show them the mess, or do I tough it out and get a new jar without showing them the mess? The people at the customer counter are actually pretty nice :)

My mother would never be afraid to get her money back for something that was unsatisfactory. It depends where you bought it, and what their policy is like ("Satisfaction guaranteed" or something). At our local grocery store, my mother has always gotten her money back, no questions asked.

That is actually a health concern. I would speak to them about it, albeit very politely.

It's definitely a health concern.
The store would very much want to know about it.
If someone did that, who knows what else they might have done?
The store should probably call the police.
Please tell the store as soon as you can.
Does the sales slip show the date and time? It might be helpful.
