Given telephones are a gift from hell Im quite pleased with myself right now for making an important call to a stranger - call lasted 3mins 27secs and i managed it without fumbling my words or anything :D

sad thing is it took me about 5 weeks to pluck up the courage to make call in the first place

Woot! Congratulations!

2 weeks ago I actually used the phone to order food delivered. And yes, took forever also to work up to it so I understand how big a step it is.

Good job. :)

I hate having to make a phone call. Seems like I never know quite how to get the conversation started. I really hate having to make a phone call where I need to complain about something. OTOH, I'm fine receiving a call since I figure the person on the other end is responsible for starting the conversation. If it's a solicitor then I hang up without saying anything.

making calls is easier than answering because it's more predictable - but well done for making progress - I find it helps to write down everything you need to say but I find email makes life a lot easier!

Yes. I absolutely agree they are a gift from hell, and congratulations on your achievement! I had to make a phone call a few weeks ago and spent about 2 hours writing out my "script" so that I wouldn't mess anything up. It didn't go so well because I didn't anticipate the variety of responses I could possibly get. It ended with me mumbling something that probably wasn't even English. :D

I hate making phone calls. I'm lucky so far most of the places I've called have machines at the beginning to help me feel a little more comfortable before an actual person comes on the line.

Writing down what you want to say word for word sometimes helps, I've done that a lot.

I hate phone calls too. I don't get anxious so much as just try and avoid them all together. My wife constantly tries to get me to call my family and friends, but I try and get out of it any way I can, hehe.

Sometimes I don't mind them if I'm discussing a common interest, but eventually I find myself disconnect or get bored and start to go back to my robotic state, hehe.

I absolutely LOVE answering machines. I also love SMS because I don't have to call, muhahahaha!

Hi, I'm new here. I just had to reply to this because the telephone is probably the bane of my existence. Whenever it rings I get really annoyed too. I am really sensitive to the sound.

I was diagnosed with ADD at 7, but I am just recently realizing that I am probably mildly autistic because I have so much trouble socially.

I don't mind making or receiving phone calls at all, but I am having this one problem:

You know how people talk to their friends on their cellphones on a daily basis? This is something I can't do at all. I find it very difficult. Why????? First of all, I've been very busy with college for 3 consecutive years that I've had very little time to hang out with people, play sports and games, watch TV, go to clubs and parties etc. Therefore, I have had no new information to share friends and would have to call people once a month or during vacation. The reason I have a cellphone is to communicate with my family whenever I'm out of the house.

Has anyone been experiencing the problem recently too??

I don't have much difficulty,
But the majority of my calls are work related, more than social.

Good lord, that's great that other people hate phones as much as me. I've always detested talking on them, and that dislike was only excacerbated when I spent two months working as a telemarketer. That ended with me having a breakdown and punching the computer moniter so hard it cracked.
