Does it bother you when people don't remember your name? I actually left a party last night because of this. I was acquainted with every single person there, I had no trouble remembering their names, but mine was a mystery. It may sound silly, but situations like those have always bothered me a lot. They've been pretty common, too. Am I really that unremarkable?

Does it bother anyone else this much?

I wish I could match names to faces. I'm severely autistic, and this is one of my weaknesses. As hard as I try, it takes a lot for me to remember names. Like Temple Grandin said in her book, it take an intese emotion to get the save button pressed.

I never remember names, or faces, which sucks because I am always getting people walking up to me and asking about
my ferrets and how I am doing, and I don't remember them, I feel so bad, but I can usually fake that I remember them.

I get cases of mistaken identity all the time (and all in the last year... all of a sudden i have a problem remembering faces)

One time I mistook a girl for a guy... spent the whole next day photoshopping their faces together to give my slip-up some justification, although in the end the guy didn't care, and the girl (who's a tiny bit tomboyish) found it amusing...

Names never seem to register as important information when I hear them.. I'll literally forget someone's name five minutes after they've told me. This leads to some potentially embarrassing situations, particularly at work when I never bothered to learn the names of people I interact with every day. Can't really hold it against people then if they forget who I am.

I knew a girl once who had her name tattooed on her neck, you could always try that.

I am relieved when people don't know my name.

Ususally they know mine and I don't know theirs.

I can never remember peoples names. It is nearly the end of the year, I and I still don't know the names of all the people in my class. Names just don't seem to registered as important in my mind.

If you forget names just ask them how to pronounce them. That's what I do, although it doesn't help if their name is something simple like Kathy...lol.. you could just be like "oh i thought it was kathEEE" or I meant your last name. Yes it does offend me when people don't remember my name. I hardly ever walk up to people and introduce myself, and mostly every person I meet remembers my name.

The solution is as obvious as it is elegant. You must threaten the recipient with violence if they refrain from referring to you as "Poop Smith".

I'm usually able to recall someone's name, unless I haven't seen them in more than a year.

Could anyone provide an effective strategy for asking people their names when you've met before? I have a really hard time matching names and faces, as well as just recognizing faces. So I always feel nervous when I see someone I should recognize, and they know my name and just start talking to me as if I should know them. And by the time I get my bearings they are acting too familiar with me for me to be able to ask them who they are.

I'm AS and I have a problem matching names to faces. I usually recognize the face but do not spend enough time associating the name with the face to remember it. If I am trying to remember someone's name, I'll start going through the alphabet, one letter at a time and see if something clicks. Sometimes works.

I'm too old to get worked up over someone not remembering my name.

On a different note, does anyone have problems hearing their own name? People usually have to say my name several times or tap me on the shoulder for me to recognize someone trying to get my attention if I'm in a crowded area.
