Sometimes, when I have my obsessions on my mind, it is hard to focus on what I am doing. How many more of you are preoccupied with your obsessions?

Definitely. It is very difficult for me to think about anything else while I'm working or reading on/about something that I really enjoy.... when I focus, I focus really really hard.

So, in gaming terms, it's "focus or bust" for you.

Sometimes I get into moods where I can focus on one thing for a short while but then switch to another thing really quickly, then another, and eventually switch back. So I can multitask in a sense (hey, if it is good enough for operating systems...).

But more or less, that's exactly right.

That depends on the situation.

Once I get started on a discussion or a good book about one of my obsessions, it's really hard to derail me. I tend to continue wanting to discuss it long after everyone else wants me to shut up about it.

Yes. They do. Right now, one of my obsessions is learning Bartok pieces for piano. I go about the day huming the ones I know. I can visualize the music in my head. I'll listen to recordings of them. I'll play along with the recordings. My sleep schedule all messed up because I stay up late practicing Bartok. I have to refrain about talking to everyone about my desire to learn Bartok on piano, but I really really want to.

Oh yeah, especially when it comes to videogames! I quite this game called Diablo II a long time ago, and it took at least a year to get it out of my system. It was the same recently with World of Warcraft. I quite and for good measure, deleted my characters - no way I'm coming back here either. But, my mind sometimes still pre-occuppies itself by creating the next perfect avatar in the game. Yargh!

There are enough people on wrongplanet to gain your socialization primarily from wrongplanet. I don't see why more people don't specifically do that. It is odd, but so far, as aspies, odd works for us. So i don't see obsession with wrong planet to be anything less than worth congratulations.

I agree about Wrongplanet. Support from NTs is just as important as support from people with AS.

I notice it when I can't perform my hobbies when I want to. Then I get kinda cranky on the inside.
