and asks why i always look down/past. i stopped looking in foveal view, because i caught people staring at me all the time, and it gave me a complex - on top of not understanding the need for eye contact and having trouble processing other inputs if i do.

any suggestions?

Was he trying to be funny?
Ok, try saying, with a straight face, "Because I'm an Aspie."
Or maybe, "Can you say "Asperger's?"

But seriously, folks, It is very important to learn to make eye contact, but ONLY IF YOU ARE READY for it. If you have an adult understanding of why it's necessary, you'll want to do it. If you're not ready, there's no point in pushing it.
