Friend being a show off

Last night, a friend called me and we talked for a while. Recently, she got a new boyfriend ans spends more time on the phone with him, and stops calling me so much. She also told me about how many gifts she got compared to what I got. I got a pair of shoes, and another expected gift that another friend sent me in the mail. Anyway, I was trying to talk, and she cut me off and and kept bragging about how many presents she got and dominated the conversation.

Miyah, I have one of those "friends" too....
No matter how you try and rationalise it, they are a pain. Are you close enough to say (jokingly) "yeah, enough of the bragging now, or I'm going to get annoyed"? Or maybe she feels a bit inadequate, or maybe she is just not all that nice, or maybe no-one but you will listen to her brag

Sadly, I can't do that with the person I know- her facebook status is always about what research papers she's published in, how she's getting loads of funding for her work....and all I can think is, "but her boyfriend's a cokehead and she doesn't know"......
