My mother and my grandmother will be celebrating their birthday in a week and they invited me. She is a person, I tolerate but not like. This is not her fault, it is either mine or no one's fault. She is just the loudest most social person I know - and she speaks in a strange local dialect which I didn't even recognize as being German until an age where I could speak and remember.

She (and Ma as well) made a serious mistake when inviting me: They explained lengthily where it will take place but never even trying to do it in my terms but in theirs (I do not live in the same city as they do AND have no car so they should not have explained it in a way only inhabitants and drivers would get). I asked them to explain several times but in the end I just lied that I understood where it will be. I didn't.

What I need now is a way to wiggle out of the affair wil the lowest amount of drama possible. Can anyone help me?

Hum Hum o.o You could try doing something risky and going to the hospital? ^^; Or or....Hum......Ask several other family members that are coming (if they are) for instructions? Politely ask your grandmom or mom if someone else could give you the directions? >< I don't know what else i could think off o.O ...

You want both to do as you wish and not have to deal with people's reactions. And you ask us how to manipulate the situation to achieve these 2 things. I'd say search for the most appropriate lie yourself. Aspies are not good at coming up with good manipulations. If anything, we're the opposite.

If we're not good with manipulations we can at least try to use workarounds ^^; no?

One thing that helps for me is asking for the address and look it up on Google Maps with satellite view. That way I can compare the roads, fields and ponds from the picture with the real world when I am near the place.

My Google Maps experiments failed so far pretty much.

I want a way out... I can not not come since that would seem insulting to them and I can not come since no one seems to be able to take a step back out of their frame of reference and into mine. After I failed stepping into their frame of reference. :?

Okay, after I told my Ma that I STILL did not understsand her description, she'll give me the address and I will try to use the website of the local public transport company for info on how to get there... it seems to be less far from a bus stop than my last Google Maps experiments so it is worth a try.

Now I remembered something. Sometimes when it is near a public building I try to find a picture of the building on the internet. That can give a good point of reference.
