People ask questions like "Why did God make gays or...
and in another thread you didn't like that I was judging you. How funny.
I said I could assume such things but I ended up asking. People have believed in a God long before christianity. You are the one throwing out assumptions from the beginning that I'm a christian and throwing out stuff like YOUR BIBLE and basically being rude about a question you don't like. Instead of listening to what I've been trying to tell you, instead you keep up with your speeches as if I'm being dishonest. Since you refuse to get it and won't actually contribute to the topic but instead make your attempt to bash for a question you don't approve of, I might as well just put you on ignore ![]()

I didn't say I was pissed at you or anything, I just didn't want to give you the satisfaction of answering the same damn questions that everybody asks me because they have no clue what they are talking about.
People believed in gods before christianity, godS, as in Ra and Osiris and stuff, people only believed in the god you do when the bible was written. Like I said, if it wasn't for the bible, you wouldn't believe in god, or at least the same god you believe in now. Out of all the gods that everyone has ever believed in, you think the one that apparently you and only you believe in is the only real one.
Since you tend to avoid the topic I brought up since the beginning, its no wonder you would want to ignore me so you can stop coming up with excuses.

I won't ignore you since you're explaining. I have my own ideas of God. I keep that to myself. It wasn't taught to me through the bible. I like to ponder ideas about the unknown. I'm not making up excuses, I'm trying to tell you your assumptions aren't correct.
Since the original topic did not go into detail my mode of thinking, it was based on questions I hear others ask and it was a reply to those kind of questions plus asking others what their answers are.
I couldn't tell you weren't pissed.

Do you truly believe that if the bible was never written and christianity didn't exist, you would still have the same exact beliefs today?
I don't know. I can't honestly tell you if I would ponder about God if religion did not exist.
I would probably still question the origins of life and come up with theories. I am not sure if the theory would include a creator but if it did, I would see the creator as a form of energy both masculine and feminine. what I don't like about the xtian belief system is that they love to demonize and exclude feminine. They think they are great if they are males because they came first in their story. Thinking about it on a technological level, that would mean that males are beta testing. Then of course the book itself is full of texts put in by kings to control the masses.
I'm sure if there were a God and the creator had anything to say to people about what they do with their lives, it would be one page long. If God were to go into detail about life itself and how everything was created and the drama behind it all that would be thousands of pages. One page books don't sell

I was raised catholic so I know what its like to believe in a god, but now I just can't think about god or religion and make any sense of it.
I don't see why people think they need to know the origins of the universe and life and everything, they have to know where everything came from, and when they have no theory of their own, they leave it all to god. But in that case, where did god come from? Why did the inconceivably vast universe have to all come from one man, but then he didn't have to come from anywhere? Why does all logic and reasoning immediately halt at god? In every square inch of the sky there are at very least 1,000 galaxies, but earth is the only important planet in all the universe and humans are the only important species, and despite god being powerful enough to create everything, he is not powerful enough to create the earth in the blink of an eye like he did with the rest of the universe and then not have to rest afterward? But thats not enough for me, I keep thinking and the topics keep changing and I can't stop, and if you couldn't stop thinking like this, you wouldn't be able to believe in god either!
This is how my mind works, it is literally impossible for me to believe in a god. If I needed to know where the universe came from, god is not a sufficient answer for me, because then I would need to know where he came from, and apparently he was just there forever! Whats the point of questioning what created the universe and then just stopping there?
I have my own beliefs, I made my own religion as if none other ever existed, because how can I trust anyone else is right? There have been thousands of religions, they all thought they were right, but they can't all be. I just believe the universe is a living creature, it formed itself and continues to grow, and it will shrink and die over time, and then from the ashes will be born a whole new universe with things in it that you can never imagine. That one will go through the same cycle, and maybe in 100 more lifetimes of it, the universe we live in now will be born again and start all over and die again like a endless cycle.
It may sound crazy, but the idea that the earth revolved around the sun was crazy, and blasphemous, at one time.

I've often pondered if we are all just cells living inside of a big being who is also living inside of another being and who is also living inside of another being.
It's great in my opinion that you think about possibilities. I don't let the theories of God be the end all be all to the questions regarding life. People who group up and attack others as if they are a form of cancer for not converting and abiding by their plans and system are the ones who are flawed. They get lost with the message of tolerance and acceptance of difference. This always seems to happen with messages. The messenger dies and then people twist up the message to suit their own group thinking agenda and it doesn't truly take effect.
People have been persecuted for a loooong time for independant thinking.

A missionary and a native are siting outside the mission,
'I have a question?' inquires the native.
'Yes' replies the missionary.
If I did not know about God and sin, would I go to hell?'
No,' the missionary replies, 'not if you did not know.'
'Then why,' asked the hunter earnestly, `did you tell me?'

Yeah, thats a big problem with christianity for me. It seems like all christians care about is hell and judging and punishing sinners and non-believers, yet they are suppose to be representing the guy who asked god to forgive the people who were in the middle of crucifying him. Of coarse not all christians are like that, and thats the problem, none of them should be like that. Christianity would be so much better if nobody ever made up hell. It just seems to be a tool for intolerance and hatred and getting people to worship god out of fear. Its also one of the reasons I don't believe it, because its all way too convenient, everyone on their side is rewarded and everyone else is punished, it seems like too much of a coincidence or fairy tale to be true.
Due to God's nature that I have seen in the bible, particularly the old testament, if he really believed we were heading to overpopulation, he wouldn't have a problem wiping out a few of us with something like a drought or some other natural disaster. And since autistic people and other people of scientists might be considered skeptics, since you would have to ignore what the bbile says to accept what we know in science and to progress in technology, I have difficulty believing God had such a purpose in mind.
Furthermore, if gay people are sinners, and God is incapable of sin, then the fact that he created gays is a contradiction, and the bible makes no sense at all.

This thread is rather making me ill (in spots).
There's very little that bothers me more than people who can't possibly understand a situation making judgments about that situation. IE straight people trying to tell gay people that they chose to be that way. Oh, please. On the other hand, if you are "choosing" to be straight, then I'd be awfully concerned about your wellbeing. That kind of self-oppression will only make you turn out like Senator Larry Craig. If you really are completely straight, which I think makes up a much smaller fraction of the population than currently claims to be, then fine. That's the way you are. Gay people, everyone in the middle gray-area, transgendered people, etc... that's the way they are. What's the problem? I seriously don't understand it.
I have no problem with people's beliefs if they understand that it's only *their* beliefs. As soon as they start interpreting the bible in a way that is hateful, judgmental, and oppressing to others, well that's when you lose me. That makes no sense at all. That's not what religion is about.
Why can't we just let people be themselves and concern ourselves with our OWN selves, for once?
Try telling that to the people who think the bible says homosexuals are sinners.
