What I'd really like to see over here is something like they have to a limited extent in England - job agencies specializing in AS, specializing in helping us learn the skills we need to rather than instant 'sink or swim', and in general helping the employers to understand what it is we're dealing with. I don't know whether or not this is the reality of it but hopefully an agency like that would have on hand the types of connections with companies which have job availabilities or potential for such which would a). fit our strengths and buffer our deficits in a way that would benefit the company as much as us and b). where they would allow extended training or allow the agent to help us with taking whatever extra time is needed to familiarise ourselves with the job and how it's done rather than still having to learn it all 'on the fly'. Not that some of us can't learn on the fly, just that I've definitely noticed in my own case that I'm still not real sure of my knowledge unless I've had a chance to double-check it and I usually end up feeling that I lose people's confidence in my ability midstream in the learning process.
As for the behavioral stuff and discrimination, that's gonna be much harder to do and I think the only way that will ever come to pass is if aspergers and autism as well as the life-long realities of it really start getting a lot more public attention than they have, enough to where every Joe, Dick, Harry, and Sally know all about it just from watching TV. Point is as long as our struggle isn't common-knowledge, it's going to be disconfirmed like that indefinitely.
