I am starting to wonder if I have aspergers but then again I'm not too sure- reasons being:

I have poor social skills- I can carry on a conversation etc etc but its not very lighthearted always more serious.
I have a one tracked mind
I have been described as odd, eccentric, and such
I seem to have to be alone for a couple of hours though- for some reason being around people too much makes me go crazy
I cant cue in to subtle emotions or jestures, its only the very obvious
When I'm at work, I seem to have this feeling that the only way something gets done right is if I do it myself
And on top of that, I seem to have stuff in common with people here.

BUT...
I can still socialize to a degree
Some of the little things (like not being able to look people in the eyes, react to major feelings things like that) that I hear aspies have issues with I dont have an issue with
I can be funny
I am hardly unfriendly, but rarely make close friends
I dont mind people to a degree
My body language, facial expressions are typical to a degree (its more of a learned thing)

I dont know really. Im just confused. I want to learn as much as I can about myself and hear what people have to say before I decide to take this to a shrink :?:

I'm not sure as I'm pretty new to all this myself. The reasons you gave for thinking you have are similar to mine (although I also have a major issue with eye contact). Hopefully someone else will be able to give you more of an idea than me, I just wanted to reply and say I'm in the same boat. It doesn't really matter to me if I am or not. I like it here because I can relate to a lot of what people are saying here. It's all down to personal perspective. If you think you are and are finding like-minded people here then you're in a good place. I'm thinking I probably DO have apsergers but a lot of the things could be down to my dyspraxia, I'm not sure but I like it here so I'm staying :)

It's really impossible to diagnose (not that I would be able to diagnose someone anyway) someone from just a few posts, if it really means that much to you, you can always schedule and appointment with a therapist. Keep in mind that just because you exhibit traits doesn't necessarily mean you can be stamped with a diagnosis; sometimes people are just introverted and eccentric.

Welcome to WP.

The aspie criteria aren't set in concrete and there's a lot of interpretation involved. There's also quite a few myths wrapped up in it.

If you see a shrink, make sure that you see one that understands aspergers.

thats true.
its just that a few of the traits of aspies seem to line up with me, the one tracked mind, the eccentric behavior, bad social skills and things.
even if its not the case- this is still something that might raise a flag
