It is not a "real" problem.

What happens is that the database is not re-scanned from scratch for every page access for every item on the page.

In particular, when posts or threads are deleted, things like the exact number of pages with posts on aren't recalculated. That's done just once in a while.

Some threads from each forum have been deleted, and recorded summary information sometimes goes slightly out-of-step. Occasionally, the miscellaneous details will be recalculated, but they are good enough, if not perfect.

I.e. when you try to access page 25 here, the software still thinks there are a few threads here, that have actually gone. Only when it goes to show page 25, does it notice that there are no threads left to show on that page.

Recalculating everything every time would slow the whole process down enormously. Living with some cosmetic "glitches" is what you have to accept.
